Personal injury settlement software calculates how a settlement is divided, records payments to each party and produces the client settlement statement. It replaces the spreadsheets many firms still use. In CaseQube, the settlement is part of the matter, and every disbursement is recorded in the matter’s trust ledger.
The settlement check is deposited into the firm’s IOLTA trust account. Once the funds clear, the attorney fee is taken under the fee agreement, case costs are reimbursed, and medical bills and liens are paid. The client receives what’s left. Each payment is recorded on the client’s trust ledger.
A settlement statement shows the gross settlement amount, the attorney fee and how it was calculated, each case expense, each medical bill and lien with who it’s paid to, and the client’s net recovery. The client reviews and signs it before funds are disbursed.
It depends on the fee agreement. With a gross calculation, the fee comes from the full settlement. With a net calculation, costs come off first. On a $100,000 settlement with a 33% fee and $10,000 in costs, the gross method gives a $33,000 fee and the net method gives $29,700.
Settlement funds go into the IOLTA trust account first. After they clear, payments to the client and lien holders are made from trust, and the attorney fee is transferred to the firm’s operating account. Every deposit and payment should be recorded on that client’s trust ledger.
CaseQube takes the settlement amount on the matter and calculates the attorney fee, medical bills, liens and expenses together. It applies your attorney and client split, as a percentage or a flat amount, and shows the client’s net recovery before any money moves.
